How to Fix Common TV Connection and Streaming Problems

How to Fix Common TV Connection and Streaming Problems

Most TV problems have simple causes. Work through these steps in order before seeking help.

Buffering or poor quality

Test your internet speed on another device. Move the router closer or use an Ethernet cable. Pause other downloads on the network, then restart the router by unplugging it for thirty seconds.

No signal message

Confirm the TV is on the correct input, such as HDMI 1. Reseat the cable at both ends, try another port, and test with a different cable.

App will not open or sign in

Close and reopen the app, then restart the TV. Check for app and system updates, and confirm the date and time are correct. If it still fails, uninstall and reinstall the app from the official store.

No sound

Check mute, volume and the audio output setting. If a soundbar is connected, confirm the HDMI ARC option is selected.

Remote not responding

Replace the batteries and remove obstacles between the remote and the TV. Many manufacturers also offer a phone app that acts as a remote.

Factory reset

As a last step, a factory reset restores default settings. Note that it erases saved networks and accounts, so you must set the TV up again.

When to contact support

If the problem continues, note the model number and error message and contact the official support team of the device or app maker. Keep your personal details private.

Calm, step-by-step troubleshooting solves most issues without cost.
